All the time, they're all BS.
All the time, they're all BS.
In the old days we referred to these stock tips as "Boiler Room Operators", Back than, there were 100's of people opening telephone books and cold-calling people to "BUY" a particular stock as the price would be doubling soon. Boiler Room Op's were the underwriters & distributors and market makers for the stock. After the total sales were out, sales agents got there 20% commissions, the Underwriters got their 30%, the Issuer got their 40% and gov't got their 10%, what was left for the Investor ...00.00% of a cow pasture....In other words "Delete that Spam"

Oh, I'm quite aware of the whole game, I was one of the Issers in the mid nineties with one of these well known boiler room operators, who has since been closed down by the OSC and rightly so. The investor bought in on hype and kept buying more stock as they saw the price rise, which was manipulated by the Operators, and then when all the stocks were issued the Operator stopped supporting the stock and the investor started to see the price drop and desperately wanted out but there was no market for it and the stock certificate eventually wasn't worth more than toilet paper.

thats not true. I just got a tip on a mining company called Bre-X - they have found a large body of ore in the SE asia somewhere -sounds promising

That is exactly what these spam shills for penny stocks are. Create a demand for no particular reason, the stock rises, and then the people that created the pump then dump thier stock and take the profit

I am also looking at an energy company based in Houston - Enron- at its current price it must be way undervalued given the price of oil.

You should be on ROB TV. I see you have a penchant for the high flyers. Do you ever just wing it when stock picking?

I'm just plane lucky. I air on the side of caution, don't want to cause a flap, plus my dart board is about as good a stock picking tool as you can get.

Investing in the airline industry
There is an investor in the U.S. whose done well owning American Airlines stock. He bought in near the bottom as the industry is beginning to restructure. U.S. Air has come out of Chapter 11 successfully for now. We've seen how well some investors did after Air Canada's parent ACE came out of bankruptcy. Still it's a risky industry especially with fuel cost high.

if he bought shares before they came out of chapter 11, then he may not own any part of US AIR - debt being swapped for equity

the penny stock pump and dump has been around for a while and yes, i've been burnt too in the early 90s.
However, there are similarities on a large scale too. Many investment houses make their money on swings. So, for example, was there a significant shift in gold production or consumption in the last 2 years? I think not, still the price went from 300 to 700. Many analysts and brokers "talk up" a stock or commodity after they took a position in it. Then they are the first ones to dump it when they made their profit.

Just to update what happen on the penny stock.
On last Monday morning, the new was coming out as expected (since the e-mail has already covered) and the price was went up 40%, afternoon, it back to original price and it down 40% the next day. And I check it today, it down 60 % from where it starts on last Monday.
I check the recent news on that company and they come out saying that they were the target of some stock promotion junk mail and they were nothing to do with those mail at all. I wonder who gonna believe it!
